A humpback whale was spotted WITHIN the harbour walls of Reykjavík in the early hours of Saturday! Rare, although not unheard of, whales sometimes venture close to shores and into marinas as a result of following food. The whale didn't seem to be hurt or in distress, just feeding among the marooned boats and ships and thankfully it found its way out of the harbour again a couple of hours after it was first spotted. It's not the first whale to find intself inside the charming Old Harbour and perhaps not the last - but a surprise nonetheless and an interesting sight for both locals and travellers!
Report from the tour on 11 May 2019 at 09:00 "Our adventure started sooner than anybody anticipated. We did not even had time to leave the dock, as our chins dropped by the sighting of a humpback whale, right there, inside the harbour! It was possible to observe this angel of the sea for quite a long time while it was feeding." More from the whale diary entry: elding.is/ww-11may2019
