A RED ALERT has been issued by the Icelandic Met Office due to hurricane force winds caused by a storm that is due to hit Iceland on Friday! "The weather is likely to cause extensive transport disturbances and travelling is not advised while the weather warning is in effect. Damage to structures due to wind is possible, especially in the south part. People are advised to exercise caution to prevent accidents and fasten loose objects. High sea levels are expected due to storm surge."
International and domestic flights are likely to be delayed or cancelled, and the same goes for tours and activities. We encourage travellers to change or alter their bookings wherever possible to avoid any unnecessary inconvenience.
Safe Travel has issued the following warning:
"Feb 14: Weather alert – all Iceland! ALL ICELAND from very early morning until late evening: Hurricane force wind and rain/snow. Road closures expected. NO TRAVEL CONDITIONS AT ALL! Change travel plans!"
