The wind is getting stronger and stronger out in Faxaflói bay, therefore it has been decided to cancel the tour.
Tour at 17:00
Again we started the trip with a visit in Akurey to take a look at the Puffins. So many Puffins were standing on the Island this time and many flying around it and some at the surface as well. After staying there for a little while we headed out. After sailing for a bit we hit a really nice spot. From a distance we spotted a flock of feeding birds and when we got close to it there were two beautiful Minke Whales there surface feeding and surfacing really close to us. It lasted for maybe 15-25 minutes and then everything got quiet, the birds sat down and the whales started spending more time under water. A Pod of Harbour Porpoises then came swimming towards us in the waves and when they had left us we headed on. The rest of the trip was pretty quiet. One Minke Whale surfaced twice for us towards the end of the trip and then it went for a long deep dive and came up somewhere far far away from us, too far for us to see it.
Tour at 14:00 This tour started also pretty good. We went first to Akurey and saw a lot of puffins again. When we reached the area where we spotted the whales this morning, we saw one Minke Whale quite close to the boat just 20 meters away. But this whale came just up once and we spotted no more whales the whole tour, so complementary tickets were given. What a pity.
Tour at 13:00
The wind had picked up and started to rain when we headed out again this afternoon. In the beginning it was hard to find the whales then suddenly a stinky smell and one minke whale surfaced 70 meters in front of us. Some times they have such a bad breath. In the area we found 3-4 minke whales and some very nice and playful harbour porpoises. Even though the weather was not so good, the tour was nice.
Tour at 10:00
This tour was just amazing. It started with a lot of puffins on Akurey. As soon as we reached the whale watching area we spotted some Minke Whales in the same area. We spotted always some whales, Minke Whales and also some Harbour Porpoises, the whole tour long. Some of the Minke Whales we saw came extremely close to the boat and were just 10 meters away. We could also hear and smell them. Great tour even though it was raining!
Tour at 09:00
On this morning tour we found a pod of harbour porpoises and 5-7 minke whales. The weather was very nice, calm sea but cloudy. In the whale watching area we spotted also lots of feeding birds, big flocks. And on our way back we stopped at the puffin island Akurey and saw lots of Puffins. Nice tour.
