CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Hafsula: Despite a fairly cloudy sky,  we set sail this morning on a quiet sea with dramatic views on the surrounding mountains and all the way to the SnæfellsjÖkull volcano, still covered in snow. Halfway through our journey to the center of the bay, minke whale sightings started for our greatest pleasure. The first minke whale came quite close but was only seen 2 more times before we headed on. Little did we know it was only the beginning of an exciting tour as, after following a blow seen in the distance, we ended up encountering not one, not two, but three humpback whales !! They displayed quite an active behaviour with the first one lunge feeding in front of us and the other ones showing us their fluke when diving. As if it was not enough, our boat was surrounded all along by Northern gannets displaying an incredible show with their impressive high speed dives, an another minke whale gave us the pleasure to appear before we finally decided to head back to port, after simply an amazing morning at sea.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Hafsula: With a bit more rain this afternoon we sailed out once more. Thankfully the whales don't care about getting wet and because of our overalls neither do we. After about 40min of sailing we spotted our first humpback whale! It was a little elusive so when we noticed it was heading on we decided to do the same. We quickly after spotted our first minke whale on the way. this one passed by the ship really close, but then disappeared. We then moved on further and saw a big blow! This belonged to another humpback whale! We watched it for a bit and it came quite close to the boat at times. It was an amazing encounter with all the gorgeous landscape, some moody skies and multiple happy whales and so many Northern gannets. Sadly we ran out of time eventually and had to head back to harbour. On the way back we spotted two more minkes as well.
