Tour at 17:00

Despite the rough weather and the occasional rain it was a very successful tour. It took us a while before we saw our first Minke Whale which was spotted by one of our passengers but after that the whales were popping up everywhere. There was at least 3-4 in the area but they were surfacing all over the place, One rolled in front of us about 20 meters from our boat and another surfaced just 5 meters from us and you could see it travelling just beneath the water. Perfect whales. Then we ended the tour at Lundey Puffin Island and saw only 5 on the island but there were thousands sitting on the waters surface. Excellent Tour!!

Tour at 14:00

Now the sun was shining when we headed out to find the whales. After visiting the puffins we saw lot of diving gannets in a distance out on the bay. And when we got closer we saw there was lot of minke whales all around us! We stayed there the whole tour, hundreds of diving gannets and lot of minke whales all around! Just amazing tour!

Tour at 13:00 A little bit of wind out in the bay but much calmer than the morning tour. We first paid a visit to the Puffins of the colony Lundey who were busy billing and water paddling. Heading straight out into the bay it was not long before we spotted several black backs about a kilometre away, surrounded by many feeding Gannets. At least 5 Minke whales, most of them within 150 metres range, the rest a bit further out. At some point, they were surfacing in perfect unison, after that every other second and coming within 10 METRES (!) close to the boat. Really fun tour in breathtakingly beautiful dark seas!

Tour at 10:00

We headed straight to Akurey to see the puffins. After visiting the puffin island we headed out to Faxaflói and found our first minke whale. This one did not stay with us so we had to go somewhere else and continue the search. After a long time searching we found not just one, but two minke whales! They surfaced many times just next to us so it was a great end of the tour!

Tour at 09.00

A little bit of a roller coaster on this tour once offshore but blue skies and great visibility. We started at Akurey and there were not 12000 pairs but enough to get a great look at them especially the ones sitting on the waters surface. Then it took us a while before seeing our first Minke. The first two Minke Whales we saw were a bit elusive but we found one that allowed us to get close (whale surfaced 10-15 meters from the boat) and stayed with us for a while. We also saw large splashes from breaching White-beaked Dolphins in the distance at one time but were not seen again once we got into the area. Very quick encounters with Harbour Porpoises too on this tour but not seen by everyone. Bit of a difficult tour but ended ok in the end.

Birds seen on todays tours include: Puffins, Fulmars, Gannets, Arctic Terns, Black backed gulls, Manx Shearwaters, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Razorbills, Skuas, Cormorants and Eider Ducks.
