Tour at 17:00

A little bit more difficult this afternoon. We sailed again to the same area where we were previously and there were a few Minke whales out there. They usually just surfaced once and then disappeared for a long time so it was difficult to spot them. At the end of the tour, though, we found one Minke whale which we could follow for about 10 minutes so everyone managed to get a look at it. Our passengers were very patient and it paid off in the end :)

Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: The whales didn't show a lot of cooperation in the afternoon either and we spent much time with searching and waiting for the whales.  But we found a young minke whale and we spent some time with it. It was surfacing many times close to the boat. After that we searched further out and got to an area with many feeding birds and three minke whales. We got some nice opportunities to watch these three whales even if they didn't come often up to the surface to breath.

Report from Hafsúlan: Again a little bit of rain and some wind but still the sea was nice and calm. We found a few Minke whales out in the area where we were this morning and were able to follow one young Minke whale for about 20 minutes which was really nice, always surfacing close to the boat. We could tell that it was a young individual because of its size, it was quite small. A nice tour again.

Tour at 9:00

Report from Elding: It was a bit rainy in the morning but it stopped raining right after we left the harbour, so we had mostly a "dry" tour.  There were many minke whales out there in Faxaflói bay, but only a few of them were cooperative. Some minke whales came only once up to breath and dived a long, long time. But at least two or three minke whales surfaced a few times close to the boat! One actually fed at the surface twice! It rolled its body at the surface and showed us its white belly! That was really nice to see!

Report from Hafsúlan: A bit of a wet and windy tour but very nice in spite of the weather. We started by looking at the puffins in Akurey and then sailed out to look for the whales. We were able to observe a few Minke whales but one was especially entertaining. It was rolling about on the surface, feeding, and we could see its belly and its flukes as it rolled. A really nice tour!
