  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00, 13:00

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 0900

Report from Eldey: We set off this morning against fairly strong wind but after sailing past a few of the islands we turned so the wind was behind us meaning it wasn´t quite so cold. After about 90 minutes we found what we were looking for, many blows ahead of us. To start we went to a pair of blows from humpback whales! They were diving for a long time so we went over the another group of humpbacks, here there were 4! These were surfacing a lot more regularly and one was tail slapping and peduncle throwing a lot too! Once we got closer we realised we knew 2 of the individuals: Neila and Pep. After a great sighting we moved away, we also noticed another 2 blows further out as well. On our way back we also saw a mystery dorsal fin twice. It was shaped like a dolphin dorsal fin but behaved like a minke.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 1300

Report from Eldey: Our afternoon tour started with an helicopter practicing man overboard situations with a life raft, which was very cool to see. An easterly wind helped us leave the harbour to find the whales a bit faster than usual. After 15 minutes into the sail we spotted a small pod of 3 to 4 harbour porpoises that were too quick to most our passengers to see because they were swimming away. Oh well, let's carry on! The waves were coming down so that ride was smoother than the morning, still there was some movement. After an hour of search there they were, a few blows in the same place from 4 humpback whales that were together travelling very slowly through the waves. We had Neila and Pep there with the other 2 buddys that we couldn't identify right away. We sailed next to them for about 10 minutes until they decided to greet us with a peduncle throw that I was lucky enough to capture through my camera lense! Than they came up very close to us and stood there for 5 minutes. After that they swam away and we decided to look for more stuff. Not even 5 seconds later another 2 blows were spotted and so, we went there to investigate and yes, 2 other humpbacks one of them being Davy Jones! After another 15 minutes with these two we had to set sail back to the harbour.
