Tour at 17:00

The weather out on the bay turned out better than expected (despite a little rain) and the searching conditions were good. First we went to the puffin island, there are still some puffins there even though most of them have already left. Out on the bay we found minke whales. First we spotted a couple of individuals that were surfacing a few times before deep diving for a long time. Then we headed further out and spotted the young minke whale. It was alone this time (at least we didn't spot any adult minke whale around) and it was very curious. It came really close to the boat one time (maybe 3-4 meters from us) and we could see it well. After we left it we spotted one more minke and it was very cooperative ;-) It surfaced again and again, taking shallow dives in between, so it was really easy to observe. After sailing alongside it for a long while we left it and headed back to the harbour.

The afternoon tour was not as successful like the morning tour. The whales dived much longer and searched for food. That made it rather difficult for the passengers to spot them. The first two minke whales behaved like that but we were luckier with the third one. It surfaced several times close to the boat and finally we had smiling passengers on board!

Tour at 9:00

This was a fantastic tour! We spotted at least six minke whales. The first two whales fed together in the same area and one of them was very active. It fed always right underneath the surface and rolled around so we could see its white belly in the water. One time it came up upside down! This whale was particularly nice! The next two whales we spotted where a mother and a calf. The mother stayed always about one hundred meters away from the boat and surfaced in a circle around the boat, but the calf was feeding close to the boat and showed a similar interesting feeding behaviour like the first one! Later we found a fifth whale but this was traveling and not as easy to spot and while leaving to the harbour we spotted the last minke whale.
