Tour at 20:30

The weather was really beautiful when we headed out this evening. Not so many puffins at home at Akurey, but at least few of them :) After a short time in Faxaflói we spotted our first minke whale! This one was really nice surfacing many many times in front of the boat, only 20-30 meters away from us! We stayed with this whale for a while and all the passengers could hopefully take a good look at it. Then a little later we spotted our second minke whale! And again this one was being really nice surfacing in front us only 20 meters away! So really good two minke whales!

Birds seen on tour: Puffins, fulmars, guillemots, razorbills, gannets, arctic terns

It clouded over a little on this tour but there was still plenty of blue sky to keep us happy. The Minke Whales were even less on this tour and a bit more elusive but there were a couple that surfaced frequently to allow us to get a good look. Must have been at least 5-7 Minkes we saw on this tour which was nice. On the way to Puffin Island we saw really big shoals of Mackerel bubbling at the surface and later on a speedy Harbour Porpoise which soon disappeared. Not as productive as the earlier tours of the day but still very good!!

Still perfect whale watching weather, flat calm seas and blue skies. We headed straight out into Faxflói Bay and it took us about 30 -40 minutes to get the main area where the whale are. There were not so many Minke Whales on this tour but enough to keep you busy running from one side of the boat to the other. Some even came within 50 meters of us which was really nice to see. On the way back to Puffin Island we also saw a small pod of Harbour Porpoises that ended the tour Perfectly.

We started the tour by visiting the puffins at Akurey and there were many around the island. Out in the bay we found many minke whales, some of them came quite close specially in the beginning of the tour but later it seemed they were a bit shy and it was impossible to get close to them. Two pods of harbour porpoises showed up and we could see the quite clearly. In a nutshell, perfect weather, lots of puffins, 6-8 minke whales and two pods of harbour porpoises, very nice tour.

WOW AMAZING TOUR!!!! The weather was just amazing this morning when we headed out to Faxaflói. After a visit to Akurey, the puffin island, we started to search for the whales. And only after few minutes we found our first minke whale! It was about 300 meters away from us so we headed towards the whale. When we got there we saw there were many other minke whales in the area! We stopped the engine and just watched the whales surfacing all around us. We had minke whales and harbour porpoises all around us, but suddenly a minke whale came up 5 METERS AWAY FROM THE BOAT SURFACE FEEDING ROLLING IN THE SURFACE!!!!WOW!!! And not only once, but three times! Just amazing tour!

Tour at 09:00

A fantastic tour in the warm morning sun with almost no wind and perfect visibility. Under such conditions, it was not surprising that we ran into our first Minke whale shortly after we visited the Puffins of Akurey. It surfaced many times but was evidently trying to get away from us. This is why we decided to leave it in peace and that was a great decision. Right next to a small fishing boat, lots of Minke whales were feeding, circling us and the fishermen and surfacing continuously. FANTASTIC!!! Must have been some 10 animals and everybody was jumping from one side of the boat to the other to keep track. On the way home, some Harbour Porpoises topped off a really pleasant sea adventure!
