Tour at 17:00

We had another wet and windy trip and the sea was still pretty rough. The trip was very similar to the trip at 9:00 this morning. We started by seeing a Minke whale breaching in the distance but it stopped once we got close to the area where it was. We spotted a couple of Minke whales briefly throughout the trip but the real highlight was a group of Harbour porpoises which came really close to the boat, at one point they were less than 5m away from us. It's very rare that we get to see them this close, they are usually pretty shy :)

Tour at 13:00

Cancelled due to strong winds and rough conditions!

Tour at 9:00

Report from Hafsúlan: We set off onto Faxaflói with some strong winds creating some big waves. The sea condition was pretty rough throughout the tour but nevertheless we were able to do some whale watching! Right at the beginning of the trip we saw one Minke whale breaching (jumping out of the sea) several times from about 300m away. Once we got closer we couldn't see it again. We spotted a couple more Minke whales throughout the trip and even a small group of Harbour porpoises. The porpoises are easy to lose sight of behind the big waves but we managed to get a good look at them from just 20m away :)

Report from Elding: The conditions were rough out on the bay but our brave passengers didn't let that stop them. First we spotted a breaching minke whale about 500 meters away from us (same as Hafsúlan saw) and we headed towards it. It breached several times but stopped when we came closer. Then we kept on searching and had to search for some time. We were lucky and found an area with several minke whales. They were a bit hard to spot though and we didn't see them too well. Then we were really lucky again and saw another breaching minke whale not far away. We could see it really well when it jumped out of the water and landed with a splash. This happened 5-6 times! Then we spotted two minke whales that surfaced together and were surfacing many times in a row. It was a nice sighting. Then we headed back to the harbour :-)
