Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

Report from Eldey: Some rain clouds can't deny us a great day, so we went out in search of wildlife! The sea conditions were close to perfect and we had some tail wind to help us go faster into the middle of the bay. There were scattered birds all over the place, some were gathering in flocks but nothing popped up. After an hour of search, some splashes were seen on the entrance of Hvalfjördur! We went there to investigate while some rain was challenging us and when we got there we saw some dorsal fins going around. We found 10 to 15 white-beaked dolphins!! They swam around the boat, bow-rided, jumped a bit, and came very close to us for our passengers to better view these amazing animals. They did it all to make this tour a fantastic experience!! We continued to search around the bay but nothing else popped up, so we went back to the harbour against a very cold wind but warm inside!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Today the winds coming from the North were weaker, and it was even a bit hot with the overalls in the beginning of the tour! Sailing out with a bit more of sun and a beautiful sky, our first encounter was with a pod of white-beaked dolphins that we thought were about 5, but they led us to a bigger pod. We were in the middle of about 25 dolphins, all scattered around us, with some juveniles amongst them. They were jumping and getting some speed, not going to an specific direction, sometimes going away from us, sometimes coming closer. We left these ones and went to Videy island area, were we spotted a big blow in the distance: we had a humpback whale with us! And we fortunately knew this one. It was Pongo, logging at the surface and then going for deeper dives. While waiting for Pongo, we also saw a pod of 4 harbour porpoises passing by, fast as they are, but still we had a good look at them. We went to explore another area and then we returned to Pongo. The sun was out and about and the light hit the blow of this whale quite nicely, giving us a rainblow! Beautiful! And speaking of rainbows... We had a BIG one on our left, in the direction of Esja mountain, ending at the ocean. The rainbow got stronger and we had our last looks at Pongo with this beautiful scene on the background, while returning home very happy with the sightings this afternoon!
