Tour at 17:00

The weather was still really nice, it was sunny with clouds and calm sea. This tour was really good! We saw a breaching minke whale, but unfortunately far away from us. We saw the splashes when the whale landed on the surface, and it must have breached about 7 times! We saw several minke wales "the normal way" also, coming up to the surface to breathe and feeding in areas with birds... and then we spotted a huge splash a couple of miles away from the boat. It looked really interesting but we couldn't see what it was just yet. When we came a little closer we saw that it was a humpback whale, laying on its back in the surface slapping the fluke many times in a row (it kept doing this the whole time we were sailing towards it (probably 10-15 minutes). When we arrived at the area where it was, it stopped slapping the fluke and started approaching us. It surfaced 3 meters from the boat, then lifted the fluke up and dived under the boat... and then surfaced on the other side 3 meters from us. It was a fantastic sight. We could see the white flippers under the surface and we got a very good look at the breathing holes on the top of its head. We followed it for a while, getting several good looks at its fluke before it dived. Fantastic! :-)

Tour at 13:00

This was again a very fine tour! We spotted many many minke whales and like this morning they were all feeding there! Sometimes we didn't know where to look first so many whales were around us. We spotted a group of white-beaked dolphins, too. They were very fast swimming in the beginning, but slowed down in the end and gave us good opportunities to watch them. We went to another area and found again a view feeding minke whales before we finally went back to the harbour!

Tour at 9:00

We hardly couldn't believe when we spotted suddenly uncountable many minke whales at a certain area in Faxaflói bay! There must have been more than 30 individuals there. There was a lot of food at the surface and we were so lucky to watch many whales feeding at the surface. This we call lounge feeding which is always fun to watch! Some of them lounge fed just beside the boat! We decided to let the boat drift for a long time and enjoyed many of the whales very close to the boat! This was an excellent tour!!!
