Tour at 18:00

We headed to the same area where we had the Humpback whale earlier and had to sail a little bit further before we spotted the huge blow of the whale. We approached and found that it was the same whale that we had on our previous trip! It was diving a little bit longer at the beginning of the trip but still never longer than 3-4 minutes at a time. We stayed with the whale the whole time and towards the end of the trip it was quite actively feeding. There is a lot of Herring in the sea around Grindavík, lucky for us; because that means that there are Humpback whales around. As we were observing this whale we could see another blow in the distance. As we were sailing back we saw 1-2 more blows far away, and about half way back one more Humpback whale popped up just 100m in front of us! Really surprising there seem to be plenty of Humpback whales around!

Tour at 14:30

We sailed in a different direction than this morning, so we sailed out further to much deeper sea. We had been sailing for quite a while and were quite far out when we spotted a big blow and we found a Humpback whale. This Humpback was definitely feeding and we could see it blowing bubbles underneath the surface! It even tail-lobbed twice in front of us which was really spectacular :) We stayed with this whale for the remainder of the trip as it was always surfacing really close to us and was never diving for more than about 1 minute at a time. A really fantastic trip!!

Tour at 11:00

Due to awful sea conditions on Faxaflói we moved our boats to Grindavík harbour and went whale watching from there. By going out at sea from Grindavík we got shelter from the land (Reykjanes peninsula) and the conditions were much better :-) We have been out from Grindavík a few times before, sometimes spotting Minke whales, sometimes Humpback whales and even Orca's around here, so we were quite excited for this trip, but unfortunately we searched around for a long time and weren't able to find anything. At the end of the trip we finally spotted a group of Harbour porpoises which we followed for about 10 minutes, and they were really nice to observe! Our passengers got a complimentary return ticket and can come with us on another tour for free.Tour at 14:00: We sailed out on the Atlantic Ocean and were glad to see that the wind had calmed down. Looking towards land we could see the glacier Eyjafjallajökull and the volcano Hekla and also the geothermal area Krýsuvík... beautiful scenery! We sailed for a long time and covered a large area but didn't find anything! It was sunny and calm, but there was nothing to be seen. On our way back to Grindavík harbour we got a call from Elding (the 14:30 tour) and they told us to hurry up and sail towards them. "We have a humpback! ...and it's a good one too!" - We were of course very excited and decided to take the detour towards Elding. It was worth it! The humpback was fantastic, feeding in the surface and never diving for a long time. Our passengers were rewarded for their patience, that's for sure!
