Tour at 20:30

We began this trip with wonderful weather, first heading out in the bay in search of whales.  Eventually we found a Minke Whale, but it was not very interested in us.  It surfaced once very close to the boat, just 10 meters away, but then went for a deep dive and we did not see it again.  After that we made our usual trip to Akurey, one of the two puffin islands.   The weather was beautiful and a truly spectacular sunset.  As a measure of good will, all of the passengers received a free ticket to join us again.

Tour at 17:00

Again the weather was lovely but the wind had picked up even more. We started the tour by sailing for about 40 minutes until starting the search and shortly afterwards found the first Minke Whale. The Minkes were a little difficult to keep up with in this tour but we ended up seeing around 5-6 different individuals and got quite close to two of them. We got some good sightings but had to have a little patience in between. We ended the tour in Akurey where we saw almost no puffins, around 6 of them on the surface and just a couple of them flying around. Hopefully the puffins will be back tomorrow! Still a nice tour in great weather.

Tour at 14:00

We first visited the Puffin Island Akurey. There were many Gulls flying above the Island and some Puffins too. We also saw many Puffins out  at the bay. We started looking for Whales but it took us some time to spot them. We spotted some but they were quite elusive so we couldn’t track them long. We headed on and came to an area with many feeding birds. We found a Minke Whale just next to the birds and stayed with it for a while. It surfaced quite close to the boat and when we went on the spotted another one. On our way back we suddenly spotted 3 Minke Whales in the same area and stayed with them for a while. It was a nice end of a nice tour out at Faxaflói bay with really sunny weather.

Tour at 13:00

Again the weather was beautiful but a little windier than this morning. We again started the tour in Akurey and then sailed out to Faxaflói where we very soon spotted the first Minke Whale. We ended up seeing only Minkes on this tour but what great Minkes they were! Two times we could see them surface feeding coming up with their side and tail out of the water making huge splashes and scaring away big flocks of feeding birds. Just brilliant! In the end we saw around 6-7 individuals, being able to get quite close to many of them. A great tour in lovely weather.

Tour at 10:00

We started our tour with a visit at the Puffin Island Akurey. Many Arctic Terns and Black backed gulls were flying around the island and some Arctic Skuas were chasing the other birds. We spotted a group of Harbour Porpoises and stayed with them for a while. When we headed on we found an area with many feeding birds and so many Minke Whales. There were at least 6 Minke Whales in the area. The whales surfaced all around the boat. We stayed in the area for a while and switched the engine of the boat off. One Minke Whale surfaced really close to the boat and we were ably to see it still under the water surface. A really nice tour!

Tour at 09:00

We sailed out in beautiful weather, calm sea and sunshine, simply the best weather available. We started the tour in Puffin Island Akurey where there were a few puffins but not as many as we would like. Then we sailed out to Faxaflói and very soon spotted a big group of White Beaked Dolphins jumping high out of the water in the distance. When we got closer they had unfortunately stopped breaching but swam quite close to us and we could see them very well. After following the dolphins for about 30 minutes we sailed on and soon found a Minke Whale. We ended up seeing around 4-5 individuals but they were a little difficult to follow. In the end we managed to have a good look at two of them, coming quite close to the boat. A very good tour in beautiful weather!
