Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 09:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tours. Make sure to dress appropriately for the tours as it is always colder on sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

COVID-19: Keep in mind that passengers and crew are asked to ensure their own hygiene and safety at all times. Washing hands thoroughly with soap and using a hand sanitiser is advised.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: We were very happy to sail out into a relatively calm bay after many days of stormy weather. There was a bit of swell but a low wind and bright sunshine so it was a wonderful day to be out at sea. After about an hour of searching, we saw a high blow in front of the Hvalfjord. The blow belonged to a beautiful humpback whale. The whale was surfacing a bit unpredictably in the beginning: only coming to the surface twice before arching its back slightly and going for a dive of about 1-2 minutes. After some time, the whale changed its behaviour and surfaced 4-5 times before arching its back higher and sometimes even showing us its fluke! After this wonderful encounter we sailed back to Reykjavik and enjoyed the beautiful snowcovered mountains and lovely sunshine.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: The sea state has now become very still and we had really nice whale watching conditions to begin with. It took us about an hour to get to a nice area where we saw our first species of the tour. A solitary humpback whale was lively searching for food in the area and even allowed us to see it's fluke. It was proven to be very predictable as it was surfacing every 2-3 mins. In one of these moments, the whale surfaced very close to the boat as we witnessed its huge body. Later on, we carried on with our trip and we couldn't find more cetaceans, but sea birds were everywhere and made us enjoy the rest of the tour. It was definitely a lovely Sunday afternoon at Faxafloi bay.
