Tour at 13:00

The weather conditions didn't really change much since the morning. We headed out in the opposite direction in which we sailed this morning. I got a call from the captain saying that he saw a blow in the distance towards Akranes but as we headed closer we didn't find anything. We sailed further offshore we saw a flock of feeding Gannets which, in the past has been a good signal for us also seeing Minke Whales and once again they didn't let us down. A Minke Whale, surfing the swell by the look of the first observation and then, surfaced 4-5 times so that everyone could get a good look. It took a bit of time before the Minke surfaced again and once again the passengers got a great look. Harbour Porpoises were also seen in the area so there must have been quite a bit of food here.

Tour at 9:00

It was a tad windy offshore on this trip so everyone dressed up in the overalls provided to keep nice and warm. We headed of onboard Elding. There weren’t so many birds in Faxafloi today but what we did see were; Puffins, Fulmars, Kittiwakes and a couple of Gannets in the distance. Our first encounter of a cetacean on this tour was the Harbour Porpoises. They were surfacing a few times allowing the passengers to get a good look. It then took quite a while before we saw a Minke Whale. I think I gave everyone on the boat a heart attack because after about 20 minutes of not saying anything to a sudden “9 O’CLOCK, 9 O’CLOCK MINKE WHALE”, as one suddenly appeared out of nowhere only about 80 meters from the vessel.  They were a bit difficult to view on this tour as they only surfaced once and then disappeared. There were about 4 Minke Whales spotted in total throughout the tour but you had to be quick to see them. We ended the tour nicely with another, very amiable, pod of Harbour Porpoises.
