Tour at 13:00
Quite a long tour today as we wanted to check out the area where we saw the Humpback whale the other day. We didn't see much for the first couple of hours and it was raining so everyone had to dress up to keep warm and dry with the overall, raincoats and blankets we provide for free on board. Then suddenly the heavens opened up and it was beautiful, blue skies, rainbows and the suns rays streaming through the clouds. Soundly some of the passengers started pointing, Dolphins, White-beaked Dolphins to be exact. Hundreds of Kittiwakes and Fulmars were joining in on the abundance of fish we were seeing on our fish finder. After a while they left and we started to head back to land. Then, suddenly the captain shouted 2 o'clock and another pod of White-beaked Dolphins which were leaping and twisting in the air to stun fish by the looks of it. These were even better than the first group. Once again after a while we headed home. One of our crewmembers saw a blow and the back of a Minke Whale but unfortunately it didn't surface again once we stopped and waited for a while. It was a long journey back to Reykjavik but we were enjoying the sun. So even though we still haven't had a proper look at a Minke Whale yet it seems that they are coming back to the bay. Whoo hoo.

We had a school group join us this morning and because so we also offered it to other passengers if they wished to come with us too. Unfortunately we saw no cetaceans this morning but we did see many seabirds including Long-tailed Ducks, Eider ducks, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, couple of species of seagull and cormorants. So no whales or dolphins means complimentary tickets which allow passengers to return for free within two years.
