Tour at 17:00

The wind had picked up a little bit when we headed out to Faxaflói bay, the third time today. The Minke Whales were still in the same area, feeding. Many of them were lunge feeding. It is when the animal lunges its body towards the surface with the mouth open, catching the fish, and sometimes coming up on the side. Fantastic. We also spotted a small group of Harbour porpoises. Then we sailed further out, trying to find dolphins but no luck. So we headed back to the harbour. On our way back we spotted on more Minke Whale. It was lunge feeding many times really close to the boat. It was quite spectacular to watch. We ended the tour by visiting the Puffin island Akurey and there were a lot of Puffins at home. VERY NICE TOUR;)

The weather was pretty good. It did look like it was going to rain but it stayed dry throughout the tour. The sea state was very good and you could see the Minke whales far in the distance. As we headed out into Faxaflói bay we saw a couple of Minke Whales towards the Reykjanes peninsula but when we got to that area they were being very difficult only surfacing once so we went to the area where there were many Minke Whales for the last tour. However, on the way we came across one Minke Whale that we stayed with for quite a while as it was surfacing many times, sometimes less than 100 meters from our boat. We left that Minke Whale too its business after a while and headed to an area where there were many. They were just surfacing everywhere. Two Minkes even surfaced a couple of times side by side, one of which had no dorsal fin. On the way home we visited Akurey and saw thousands of Puffins sitting the water’s surface, rocks and outside their borrows. Excellent Puffin and Minke Whale tour.

Tour at 09:00

There was a lot of Puffins all around Akurey this morning, many thousands. It did not take us along time to find the first whale. They were very close to shore this time, and a lot of them. We spotted two groups of Harbour porpoises and about 7-8 Minke Whales. There were many Minkes in the same area so when one dived away, another one surfaced somewhere else. One of them was in a very good whale watching mood and surfaced many times very close to our boat so all our wonderful passengers could have a good look at the animal. We even turned off out engine so we could enjoy the sounds of the wild nature.
