Tour at 17:00

The wind had calmed down in Grindavík so we sailed from there again this afternoon. The sea was beautiful and we sailed around a very large area searching all around. It took us quite a long time to find anything but towards the end of the trip, actually very close to Grindavík harbour we spotted a Minke whale which surfaced a few times for us. After we had observed the Minke whale for a few minutes we were able to enjoy a beautiful sunset out at sea. A really nice trip with a lot of patient passengers :)

Tour at 13:00

This tour went from Reykjavik harbour because the weather forecast for Faxaflói looked better than from Grindavík. It was a bit windy though and many of our passengers wore our overalls :-) First we spotted a group of harbour porpoises, they surfaced several times but disappeared after a little while. Then we headed further out and started searching for whales. We sailed far and covered a large area. We spotted another group of harbour porpoises but they swam away rather quickly. At one point we saw a flock of feeding gannets, diving together, and we spotted a blow two times right under the flying birds. We weren't far away but didn't spot the whale. It must have deep dived. Then we headed to another area and searched some more, but didn't spot anything. We were lucky towards the end of the tour when a minke whale surfaced right next to the boat. Then it took several shallow dives, always surfacing in between. Then it deep dived, and we waited for it to surface again. It was a shallow area (only 26 meters to the bottom) and we saw fish close to the bottom on our sonar, so we hoped that the minke was staying in the area, feeding at the bottom, and then it would surface again. But we waited a while and didn't spot it again.

Tour at 9:00

We sailed from Grindavík this morning because the weather in Reykjavík looked too windy. It was also quite windy in Grindavík but we had such fantastic trips from there yesterday that we decided to head out onto the sea in the same area. Unfortunately we were not able to find any whales this morning, and the waves were pretty big. The weather here can be pretty unpredictable, and so is the nature, but we offered our passengers to join us again on a complimentary trip whenever they have the chance.
