Tour at 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather was still perfect and again we could see the group of harbour porpoises coming up the whole trip. We also spotted a lot of minke whales, about 10 individuals all together. A good end of a good day.

Report from Elding: Still really good whale watching weather, calm sea and good visibility. There were many minke whales out on Faxaflói bay, some of them we only saw from afar before they deep dived, but we had a couple of good sightings when they came closer to the boat and surfaced several times in a row. We could see on the boat's sonar that the fish were closer to the bottom than the surface and that might explain the long deep dives that the minkes were taking. Then we sailed further out to another area and found some minke whales there as well and could observe them several times. It was a nice tour :-)

Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: Again we had super whale-watching-weather! We just wanted to start the searching when we suddenly spotted a young minke whale. This one showed a very nice "whale-watching-behaviour" and we got many good opportunities to watch it very well. While enjoying this whale all in a sudden a group of feeding harbour porpoises appeared. They were so busy feeding that there was no time for them being shy, for what they are usually very well known. Then we spotted two other minke whales and spent some time with them. We left them because we got a call that the other boat found a group of white-beaked dolphins. This was very nice! And in the end we got the chance to watch three different species which we consider as very successful!

Report from Elding: The weather was really nice, calm sea and very little wind. We had one particularly good minke whale that we could observe many times in a row. It was nice, shallow diving and surfacing a lot. Once it came up right under a flock of birds and we could see its fluke! We were also able to approach the group of white beaked dolphins (they were maybe 4 or 5 individuals) and it was a nice sighting. In the end, on our way back to the harbour we also spotted a large group of harbour porpoises and we could see them surface several times. A nice bonus in the end :-)

Report from Elding II: The weather was perfect and the sea was totally flat. We didn´t have to sail for a long time until we spotted a nice group of harbour porpoises. They always showed up around the whole trip. Later we spotted a group of around 5-7 dolphins which were bow riding behind us in the waves. Then we spotted a young minke whale which was a very curious individual. He surfaced very often close to the boat and we could see the whole body underneath the water which was beautiful. He was closest just one meter from the boat. Later we spotted 2 adult minke whales. This tour was definitely one of our best tours over the summer.

Tour at 9:00

We had a wonderful morning tour and perfect weather. The sea was very calm and we could see very far. It didn’t take us a long time to spot the whales and in the end we watched three minke whales. They were all feeding, one came up underneath a flock of birds and rolled around its body just at the surface, so we could see the fluke and the flippers! The third one actually we spotted further away and it seemed to travel. We followed it for some while and funny: it ended up at the area where we watched the other two minke whales earlier. This one was clearly searching for food!
