Tour 13:00
For this tour we sailed out of Grindavík because of the increasing winds in Faxaflói Bay. Even though the sun was shining the winds made it extremely cold. We heading out offshore for about an hour and a half and had an amazing encounter with a small pod of ORCA (this is not April falls!). There looked to be an adult male and 2 or 3 females and a couple of juveniles (6 in total). An amazing tour as Orca (Killer whales) are a very rear sighting. We saw some birds, Fulmars, kittiwakes and Gannets. Looking forward to what tomorrow will bring.
Tour at 9:00
The first 9 am tour of the season was today. We sailed out from Reykjavík Harbour, the sun was shining but it was pretty cold. After a while we spotted few Harbour Porpoises, it was very difficult to follow them so we didn't stay with for very long, soon we spotted another pod of Harbour Porpoises but they were the same so we didn't stay with them for long either. When we got further out the wind was much stronger than we expected so we couldn't go as far out as we wanted but we headed to an area where there was some shelter and we often spot Harbour Porpoises and Dolphins in that area. There we found flocks of feeding birds and soon under the birds we spotted Harbour Porpoises this time we found a big pod of them probably about 40-50 even more were there together and at one point we saw about 15-20 of them surface at the same time. They were really nice to observe, they came often up to the surface so we could see them very clearly, we were also able to see them while they were swimming under the surface and we then saw the colour difference from the almost black back and the grey sides. We then docked in Hafnarfjörður Harbour were a bus was waiting for the passengers to drive them back to Reykjavík Harbour.
