Tour at 17:00

Again there were plenty of Gannets and other sea birds out there and we found a few Minke whales as well. We could see the blow of the Minke whales quite easily in these weather conditions, and there were plenty out there, but quite difficult to approach. We had a great encounter with the white-beaked dolphins, again breaching and jumping up out of the sea. The dolphins always manage to put a smile on the passengers faces :)

Tour at 13:00:

Report from Elding: We started the tour with a little bit of rain and wind which increased a bit as the morning went on. Despite the wind we were able to find a few minke whales, but people had to be quick to spot them. It actually wasn't so bad because some of the minke whales surfaced pleasingly close to the boat. A very active group of white-beaked dolphins entertained us for quite a while. They swam fast and often with their whole body almost out of the water. The most special sighting was a breaching minke whale that we saw many times in the distance. We couldn't manage to get close to it, though. The sailing back was smooth as we had the wind at our back. We still stop at the puffin island but the puffins are getting scarcer and scarcer. Luckily we had also seen some puffins out on the bay.

Report from Hafsúlan: Still the weather was very nice, but the wind had picked up and the waves had become quite big so it was an adventurous trip sailing out onto the bay. Once we were out there we found about 10 Minke whales as well as a group of white-beaked dolphins which were amazing to watch, playing in the waves. At one point we saw 6 dolphins lined up side by side inside the wave, and then they all jumped together out of it. Quite hard to explain, but a really great sight :)  At the end of the trip we saw a breaching Minke whale in the distsnce. It breached about 6 or 7 times! A perfect way to finish off this trip :D

Tour at 9:00

Report from Elding: The tour started in puffin island Akurey where we looked at the puffins that are still there. There were also some puffins out on the bay, so even though the end of the puffin season is near we all saw the cute birds :) After sailing out on the bay we saw an area with feeding birds, and there we spotted several minke whales. The birds are feeding on sand-eel, just like the whales, so when we spot big flocks of feeding birds we know that chances of whales in that area are good. The minke whales surfaced all around the boat and it was very nice to watch them all. A very nice tour in pleasant weather :)

Report from Hafsúlan: Some nice sunny weather today and the sea was pretty calm. A similar trip to the one on Elding, lots of feeding birds and some Minke whales around. We even saw one Minke whale surface with its pink belly up. Lots of feeding action this morning!
