Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00, 13:00

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 0900

Report from Eldey: We set off this morning with the sun shining and on calm seas. It didn't take long to find what we wanted, just as we passed Engey about 10 minutes into the tour we saw a blow followed by a huge fluke dive. It was Frodo the humpback whale! We got to see lots and lots of surfaces followed by fluke dives as we watched this whale. Then out of nowhere she started to do many peduncle throws and then tail slaps. This happened for about 5-10 minutes, wowing everyone. It was very cool. Then once we thought this show was over she decided to do a huge breach! We then tried to see if we could find anything else but we didn't see any other cetaceans. We did see many seabirds including eider ducks though. Next we headed back to Frodo and got to see a much calmer version of them this time. They surfaced a lot still before we headed back to the harbour with a boat full of very happy passengers.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: Another amazing show from one of our favourite humpback whales, Frodo! We sailed out with perfect conditions looking for blows and splashes! It didn't take long before we sighted our first blow of the tour! Frodo was lunge feeding and resurfacing close to shore! We were able to accompanied Frodo during its lunch for about 30 minutes and then we decided to explore other areas! We continued looking for any signs of animals while we had a very nice view of the mountains around, feeling the light breeze on our faces. We could not find any other cetacean species but as we circle back to the harbour we spotted Frodo again! This time very active and curious towards the boat approaching us quite close and showing off some acrobatic moves! Frodo breached and tail slapped multiple times leaving our passengers very excited! After this amazing show we headed back happily!

Birds encountered today were:

eider duck, Northern fulmar, black-backed gull, lesser black-backed gull, black-legged kittiwake, common guillemot, herring gull, common gull, European shag
