Tour at 20:30

The wind was much calmer this evening than yesterday evening. However, there was still some swell out on the bay but it decreased during the tour. We covered a large area this evening, in good searching conditions (flat surface) but we didn't find any Minke whales :( We found many harbour porpoises and a group of white beaked dolphins (6-7). The sunset was really beautiful!

Tour at 17:00

On this tour we spotted two Minke Whales. The first one surfaced very close two times before disappearing and the second one came up to the surface 5-6 times but after that we could not find it again. We spent a lot of time searching and we sailed quite far out. On our way back to the harbour the captain spotted a small group of White-beaked dolphins but when we tried to approached  them they disappeared .The weather was quite nice and we saw a lot of birds, Arctic Terns, Fulmars, Guillemots, Kittiwakes, Gulls  and Puffins

Tour at 13:00

The wind calmed down a lot, making the sea mirror calm. There was still a bit of a swell but still perfect conditions. Once again we started the tour at Akurey and saw many Puffins. Then we headed offshore and sailed for about 20 minutes before we spotted a pod of breaching White-beaked dolphins about 1km behind us. So we headed back towards the coast to view them. It was a small pod (3-5 dolphins) but there were leaping and surfacing many times, occasional less than 50 meters from our boat. After a while we headed offshore and saw some Harbour Porpoises on the way. We got to a really good whale watching area because we saw Minke Whales, White-beaked Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises. It was hard to know exactly how many Minkes were in the area but there was at least two and more than 10 Dolphins. We stayed in this area for a long time before heading back to the harbour. Another fantastic tour.

Tour at 9:00

The weather was absolutely beautiful for this tour. There was a bit of a swell but generally the sea conditions were really good. We were going to start the tour at Akurey (Puffin Island) but on the way we saw lots of splashes and what looked like a blow from a Humpback Whale but as we got closer there was no sight from the Humpback but there was a large pod of White-beaked Dolphins (20-30 dolphins). They were great to watch but i think they were to occupied with feeding to entertain us so we watched them for a while before heading to the Island to see the Puffins, which there were many.  On the way offshore we came across a small pod of playful Harbour Porpoises that surfaced many times. We then got word from our sister vessel that they saw a Minke Whale so we were off. Once we got there it took us a while before we saw one but it surfaced a couple times before going for a deep dive. We got to see it surface a few more times before we had to head home. 3 out of the 4 Faxaflói cetaceans. Very good tour.
