CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00
Report from Elding: Today, we had pretty good conditions for whale watching. There was a bit of swell but it was long so didn't make too many of us feel queasy and there was no wind so we could actually enjoy being outside! We headed back to the area between the islands where we've been having great success these past months. Over the whole tour we saw 5 humpback whales! When we first approached the area, we found 2 humpbacks swimming side-by-side. One of these whales was an individual we had seen the previous winter that we have called Pongo. Once some other boats arrived, we moved on from this couple and we had already seen other blows in all directions. For the rest of the tour, we were moving between all the whales. They were all around us and at some times, we were surrounded so wherever you looked, you could see a humpback! Most of the whales were feeding, but Pongo and their friend got tired about half way through the tour and started to sleep. They started to rest super close to our boat and we could see their whole bodies through the water - it was INCREDIBLE! After enjoying this for a while, we started to run out of time and had to head back in to the harbour but we were all feeling amazing after our afternoon with the whales.
