Tour at 20:30

After visiting the puffin island, Akurey we headed out to Faxaflói. It took us a little while to find the first minke whale, and this one was being little bit shy. A little later we found another minke and we could stay with this one for a while. This minke surfaced many times not so far away from the boat so all the passengers could take a good look at it!

Tour at 17:00

A really diverse tour!! We headed straight out into the Faxaflói bay and very soon encountered our first Harbour porpoises, very close to land! We stayed with them for a bit, admiring these cute and apt little swimmers. After that, we moved further out into the bay and soon found ourselves surrounded by 3 Minke whales. They surfaced a few times next to us but stayed submerged for a long time in between. On the lookout for further Minkes, we met another pod of porpoises, listening to their little squeaking blows. At the same time, a pod of White-beaked dolphins appeared about 100m away and made everybody sigh with delight when riding our wake. When we finally reluctantly started heading home, we met more porpoises and another pod of dolphins, these getting 1m close and then diving under our boat. At the same time, beautiful sunshine, two rainbows and a pleasant visit to Akurey topped off this fantastic trip!

Tour at 14.00

We started the tour by visiting Akurey. Only 3 puffins at home this afternoon so we headed soon out to Faxaflói. First we spotted a big group of white beaked dolphins! They were really playful, jumping again and again many times in a row and swimming really close to the boat! So much fun to see them. Then among the dolphins we saw a minke whale as well! What a party we had! After a while we decided to head further out, and later on we found two more minke whales! Really good tour!

Tour at 13:00

We started at Lundey this time, the other Puffin colony we have of Reykjavik and to our amazement Puffins were everywhere. Then we headed out into Faxaflói Bay with wind in our hair and smiles on our faces. We first found a pod Harbour Porpoises that was a great start to the tour. Then we headed very far to find the whales. It was a Minke Whale clock, they seemed to be surfacing everywhere. Some came really close (10-20 meters from the boat and others much further away. One whale was a whale we knew very well called Ellis which we have seen in previous years. We ended the tour with a pod of White-beaked Dolphins and one or two of them were playing in the wakes our boat was making and swimming a meter or so next to us. Excellent tour!!

Tour at 10:00

What an amazing tour!!! Just incredible morning we had. We spotted at least 5 minke whales! And what an action. Minke whales jumping and surface feeding again and again! This was the most amazing tour this season! They were jumping and rolling and surface feeding over and over again! No more words needed about this tour than just absolutely amazing!

Tour at 09:00 The water surface was flat like a mirror this morning, so excellent spotting conditions. We started out with a pleasant visit to the Puffin island Akurey and then headed out into the bay. Thanks to the good weather, we soon saw our first Minke whale, but it was being very elusive and dived away from us. The same thing happened with the next two ones and only the fourth was finally our lucky one, surfacing a few times close to us but then also diving away. Sometimes, the whales are just not up to being awed at for a longer time. Still, we got a few good looks, so an all right tour in the end.

Birds seen on todays tours include: Puffins, Fulmars, Gannets, Arctic Terns, Black backed gulls, Manx Shearwaters, Kittiwakes, Guillemots, Razorbills, Skuas, Cormorants and Eider Ducks.
