Report from Eldey: The weather forecast had told us that we would have quite a bad combination of swell height and wind speed, but as it turned out, the conditions were fine – just a little choppy. We saw the magnificent northern gannets dive down to ocean surface as we cruised out into the southern areas of Faxaflói bay. There, a passenger spotted some whale movement. We quickly found out that these were about 6-7 white-beaked dolphins, with at least one baby calf that kept jumping up like a gymnast. The other ones were quite curious and came up to the boat to inspect us and ride in the waves that the boat was making. After having observed them for quite a whale, we went more to the northern areas of the bay, and thought that we had spotted a humpback whale blow in the distance, but it was too far out north for us to pursue it. However, on our way back, we found another humpback whale, only about 30 minutes from the harbour. Before we were close, it did a huge tail-slap on the ocean surface, but kept pretty quiet as we came closer. It only came up once for a breath before going again down for a deep dive, and then just before we had to leave, it came up two times and waved us goodbye with a very nice fluke-dive.

Report from Eldey: The weather situation did not change much from the morning, and visibility and spotting conditions were good. We set the course towards the same area where we had seen a humpback whale this morning, and soon after we could spot a blow at the distance. We kept searching and searching and we found a group of 7 white-beaked dolphins, that were jumping out of the water! We even got to see 5 of them in the air at once. Some of them played under and around our vessel. We sailed further out from land and we could spot another time the blows of the humpback whale. And when we were waiting it to surface it again it greated us appearing just a few meters away from our boat, and showing us a very nice tail. We enjoyed its presence during a great time and saw its tail several times. Northern gannets were also part of the adventure, it was extraordinary to see these birds diving at the same time the humpback whale was around us. While we were returning back to the harbour we had beautiful views at mountains around, what an incredible afternoon to be out!

✔ CLASSIC WHALE TOUR ON SCHEDULE | 19:00

Report from Elding: We knew it was going to be rough (but safe) sailing conditions that is why the captain decided to get to an area where were spotted a humpback whale this afternoon by sailing along the coast of Seltjarnarnes, where we were able to enjoy the views of Grótta, an historical amazing nature reserve whith beautiful houses, research center, a majestic lighthouse and known due to its abundant birdlife. When we arrived to the area we found a humpback whale, but what a surprise when we checked out the pictures, it was not the same as during the afternoon! It began to lunge feed next to our boat, so close we could look into it's mouth! Also a small and cute minke whale delighted us when it was time to go :-)
