Tour at 13:00

The afternoon tour was really nice and the wind calmed down slightly. We headed offshore for quite a while towards the area were the Minkes were spotted this morning. First though we came across a very small pod of Harbour Porpoises which were very easy to follow because of the feeding Arctic Terns above them. Then we came to the area and the Minke Whales were surfacing everywhere and seemed to be more active than this morning. One lunged right out of the water and hit the water with a big splash. Another time you could see the Minke just beneath the water surface surfing the waves. It was just amazing. The birds were also very active (Gannets, Skuas, Gulls, Terns, Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Guillemots, Razorbills and Puffins). I don´t want to get anyone’s hopes up but a Humpback may of been seen too as it was only alerted to the crew when we were near the coast so we couldn´t investigate but more than one passenger said they saw large white fins slapping the water. Cross those fingers for tomorrow. Absolutely amazing tour!

Tour at 9:00

Again the weather was beautiful and sunny but the wind did pick up a bit out in Faxaflói Bay. We started the tour by visiting Akurey (Puffin Island) and saw thousands of Puffins. After sailing for quite a while we came across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises which only surfaced twice before disappearing. Further out we came to a productive area with loads of Minke Whales and birds especially diving Gannets and Arctic Terns. At the beginning we only saw blows from the whales but then they started to surface a lot closer to the boat. On our was back to the coast we had Minkes surfacing in all directions very close so it was very hard to leave. Wonderful tour ;)
