Tour at 20:30

We began our trip with our usual stop at Akurey (Puffin Island) where we saw thousands of puffins.  There were so many the Captain decided to stay a little longer and explore the north end of the island where we saw many groups of puffins hanging out together. It was a very nice way to begin our trip.  And before we knew it , and before I had time to prepare, there was a Minke whale, so close to Akurey.  However it did not prove to be very personable so we moved on.  It was not long before we spotted another Minke whale, this time it came very close to the boat.  We stayed there as long as it wanted us too and then we moved on.  It took us some time to find the next sea mammal, but boy oh boy was it worth it.  We came across several different Minke whales, but one in particular was very friendly with us and feeding. One time it lunged out of the water creating a big splash and then very relaxingly swam alongside the boat for a long time.  A perfect trip out in Faxaflói Bay.

Tour at 17:00

We headed straight out into the bay and we spotted a Minke Whale really quickly we stayed with him quite a while. He was chasing us around a bit, he changed directions really quickly but he didn’t try to go away, so we managed to follow him. When I just wanted to point out on a Arctic Tern at the side of a boat...a Minke Whale came up with a big blow at exactly the same place. I almost had an heart attack. He really surprised us! When he went for a deeper dive we headed on and found another Minke Whale. We stayed some time with him but had to go back because our time was up. During the trip we saw also Arctic Skuas chasing the Arctic Tern to give them their food, just right in front of the boat. It was such a great show. When we headed back our Captain and the Engineer spotted another Minke Whale it surfaced really close to the boat. It was really close to the coast. It was  a really nice seeing on our way back. But we couldn’t stay long with it. So we went on and visit the Puffin Island Akurey. There were not so many Puffins. Some were sitting in the front of the island on the water surface. There was a big group off Arctic terns flying above the island they were so loud. It was a great day. Great Tours! With really nice guests and great Whales thank you so much for such a wonderful day!!! ted out tour with a visit at the Puffin island Akurey. Lots and lots of Puffins were sitting at the surface and many were flying above the island. After this nice start we headed out into the bay and started looking for whales. It didn’t took a long time and we spotted a nice Minke Whale. It surfaced in the front of our boat. We stayed with the whale for a while and it surfaced quite often. It was awesome for the passenger to see him so good. The Minke Whale was surfacing really slowly, so we had a good look at his beak. When he went for a deeper dive we tried to go on. But our time was soon up so we had to go back. We also saw a lots of Guillemots out at the bay. They were sitting at the water surface and they dived down when we came closer with the boat.

We started this tour also with a stop at the Puffin Island Akurey and were there was a lot of traffic. So many birds were flying around and at the front of the island. After this nice visit we headed out into the bay. Soon we spotted a Minke Whale and tried to follow him. He was really elusive and changed directions really quickly. So we headed on to look for another one and we got ucky. We also stayed a while with this Minke Whale but it was too shy. But still we could see him quite nice. We followed him so long and I was so surprised when the time was up and we had to go back. We also saw some Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes, Puffins and Arctic Skuas out at the bay.
