CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 09:00

Report from Eldey: This Wednesday morning we sailed out into a slighty grey bay. The mountains looked quite gloomy hiding under cloud cover, so we all layered up and sailed out into our adventure. After about an hour of sailing we spotted a blow on the horizon - a humpback whale! This whale came up and showed its beautiful fluke once but then got a little fluke shy. We could see this fluke was quite dark, so it will be interesting to see if we know this individual or if its a newcomer to the bay. Just when we ran out of time, it came incredibly close to the boat! Almost like it knew we had to leave. On the way back we enjoyed the views of the earie bay and warmed up with some hot chocolates!

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 11:00

Report from Hafsulan : Today, the bay welcomed us under menacing skies, light rain and a mild swell but no wind. Shortly after arriving to the most productive area of the bay, we found our first humpback whale . It was large individual with a powerful breath we could hear from the boat; it was rather stationary, breathing at the surface and then going regularily for deep dives, showing our passengers its fluke and popping up again a few meters away after a few minutes underwater. After a while observing it, we continued our journey and found another humpback displaying the same behaviour. Once again we could stay a while observing, and we finally slowly headed back to the harbor.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: We sailed out of Reykjavík harbour into a calm Faxaflói bay. Not long after we left, we spotted the blow of a humpback whale! The whale was moving a bit unpredictably and came up only sporadically, so after a few looks at this individual we continued our journey into the bay. Further out, we found two separate humpback whales. We decided to focus on one of them, an individual who came up frequently and sometimes showed us his beautiful fluke above the water. It was wonderful to spend some good moments with the whales, and of course we also enjoyed seeing the diversity of seabirds such as Atlantic puffins and northern gannets flying around.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 15:00

Report from Hafsulan: The sun was battling the clouds and rain for it to be able to shine upon us as we set sail this afternoon. The seas had however calmed down even more since this morning so the trip was quite comfortable. Our courage to brave the drizzle today was rewarded  as we saw no less then 2 separate humpback whales! We could stay a while with both individuals as they were fairly calm, attending to their business of the day. On multiple occasions we saw them surface very close to the boat and we could enjoy multiple beautiful fluke dives. Eventually, it was time to head back while we warmed ourselves with a nice cup of coffee.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 17:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we sailed out once more onto Faxafloi. It was still a moody grey day but the ocean had calmed a bit. We were eager to see what nature had in store for us this afternoon. Once again we did not have to sail far before spotting the blow of a humpback whale. This whale swam around us a fair bit showing its fluke on occasion, confirming it was the same one from the tour before. As more boats arrived we headed on to give it some space and soon after found a minke whale. We got a few good looks at this individual which was quite special as minkes can be a bit elusive. After this one headed on, we once more came across the humpback from the way out. This time it always came up directly behind us - almost like it was teasing us. We enjoyed as long as we cound but eventually headed back home to harbour when we ran out of time.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 20:30

Report from Elding: We set sail on a rainy night but the sea was absolutely flat. We were very excited to see whales on this cold night and after a while we came across a humpback whale. We spent some time observing it and studying its behaviour, watching it come to the surface on multiple occasions, ending with a deep dive showing off its elegant tail. We decided to continue on our way with the aim of finding more whales, but after a long while, we found nothing. So we decided to go back to the initial spot. We saw again the same whale that was feeding in the area, where it lunge feeding on several occasions. It was a very nice encounter. We decided to go back to the harbour very excited about the whale encounter!
