Tour at 17:00

The wind had picked up a little bit but the conditions were still nice out on the bay. This evening there were almost no seabirds out on the bay and we weren't as lucky as in the previous tours. The food wasn't close to the surface but located deeper so the sightings weren't as interesting as before. All in all we saw three minke whales, but they were far apart and they were rather "un-cooperative", just surfacing a couple of times before deep diving and disappearing. Then we spotted some interesting splashes in the distance and we headed towards them as fast as we could. We could see that it was a group of white beaked dolphins, but when we arrived at the area where they were gone. We waited a long time but were unfortunately not able to spot them again.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: The weather got even better. Again we found an good area with many feeding birds and several minke whales. They were diving this time a bit more and longer than in the morning. But still I would consider these minke whales as quite nice ones. While we were watching minke whales suddenly a group of playful white-beaked dolphins appeared. It was a lot of fun watching them till they started swimming fast away from the boat. We spotted another minke whale at the end of the tour. It took us some while to get it closer, but it was it worth to wait because it surfaced just a few meters away from the boat in the end!

Report from Hafsúla: The weather was still really nice, the sun was shining and the wind even calmed down a little. This tour was similar as the morning’s tour, we found an area with food in the surface and many feeding birds. We saw lots of feeding minke whales there, some of them surfacing fast right under flocks of feeding birds (same as morning tour, really nice). We had some good minke sightings :-) We also observed the same group of white beaked dolphins as the passengers on Elding but they (the dolphins) started to swim away from us after a while. In the end of the tour, on the way back to the harbour, we spotted a group of harbour porpoises, but they disappeared after a few sightings. It was a very nice tour :-)

Tour at 9:00

Report from Elding: The weather was really good today again! On this tour we spotted at least about 10 minke whales. They all were in a very good "whale-watching-mood" and gave us lots of good opportunities to watch them well. Suddenly they were all gone or rather diving a really long time. While we waited for them to come up to breath we spotted breaching dolphins in the distance. We went there and found a small group of white-beaked dolphins. They were feeding there very close to the boat and approached the boat several times! It was a very enjoyable tour!

Report from Hafsúla: The weather was great and we were very lucky with sightings as well. On the way out on the bay we found a couple of harbour porpoises, but they weren't very approachable and we could only observe them a couple of times before they disappeared. We found a good area with several feeding birds. In that area we saw many feeding minke whales as well, some further away but some close to the boat. We were lucky and saw a couple of them coming fast up to the surface right under a flock of birds, very cool feeding behavior :-) Then we also saw a group of white beaked dolphins (same group as Elding) and they were very active, jumping out of the water several times in a row. It was a really nice tour.
