CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 09:00

We set sail on Faxafloi bay on a bit of swell, cruising for about an hour, hoping to spot some whales. Just when it felt like we might be out there for a while, we heard there were whales close to Hafnarfjordur harbour. So, of course we adjusted our route and went to check it out. and there it was - a huge blow from a humpback whale! It kept resurfacing and even showed off its fluke a few times. Then before we knew it, 3 more blows appeared around us! all very close to shore! We decided to dock at Hafnarfjordur to save some sailing time and just soak it all in. What a day!

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we set sail from Hafnarfjordur for a change! After a a very quick sail we found 2 sleeping humpback whales! We stayed with these two sleeping beauties for a bit, one of them even did a peduncle throw as well! We stayed with them until another boat joined and went onwards to quickly find another humpback whale! This was one travelling a little bit more so a bit more tricky to stay close to. As we were right outside of Hafnarfjordur we did have to start our journey back to Reyjavik and when we started being pressed for time we did exactly that. Starting the tour here though allowed us to get the maximum amount of time with the whales instead of most the tour being taken up by travel. On the way back we saw 4 pods of harbour porpoises! One pod was riding our wake as we got closer to Reykjavik and the other three appeared an dissappeared but we probably saw roughly 11-14 all together. As we started getting closer to our harbour we spotted a minke whale heading towards us, and then another and another! Hold on - the third one wasn't a minke at all but another humpback whale! We now had two minkes around us and a humpback whale all taking turns when they were popping up! And then a breach out of no-where! We were all in awe and it was a magical way to end this already amazing tour.
