  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 9:00
  • CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Today we will be operating on our lovely vessel Eldey for the 9:00 and 13:00 Classic Whale Watching tour. Make sure to dress according to weather, as it is usually colder at sea than on land.

CLASSIC WHALE WATCHING 09:00

Report from Eldey: This morning we sailed out with easterly wind and some God rays in between the clouds. The weather changed a fair bit, sometimes it was grey sometimes more windy but the ocean was always a beautiful shade of blue. Not long after we left the harbour, while watching the sunlight bathing the top of the mountains, we spotted a blow! A humpback whale was feeding very actively, coming close and then popping up far, going to different directions, very fast. It wasn't alone: many different seabirds were feeding too, plunging into the sea like arrows! The whale was Frodo, a well-known and active individual. After watching it for a while we decided to give some space to other boats and continue our way, exploring other areas. About 20 min later, we saw another blow in the distance! It was humpback whale, this time, Pongo! It was a bit tricky at the beginning, but we tracked it by its tail in the air. Calmly, we watched this whale going for beautiful fluke dives, and by this moment, the sun was shining a lot, making its fluke even brighter and whiter. The other boats started to come and we decided to start our journey home, happy with the sun on our faces and the sightings we had to start the day.

CLASSIC WHALE TOUR | 13:00

Report from Eldey: This afternoon we sailed out into strong winds, excited to see what the afternoon would hold! We sailed to our usual hotspot that worked for us in the morning, but sadly no cetaceans. We continued further on and sailed a little further out, again to a spot that worked well for us in the morning but with little success. We did spot 3 harbour porpoises on the way out but nothing bigger. However third time is a charm so we ventured on and then found Frodo our humpback whale! It seemed she had ventured quite far from the morning so it took us a while to find her but when we did, she came extremely close and we stayed together for as long as we could. It was truly magical and she even picked a spot where we were sheltered from the wind. When time was up we headed back to harbour and eventhe sun came out to join us.
