Report from Eldey: Sometimes patience is the key... After leaving the harbor we had to pass some swell before finding shelter behind the island Videy located just a few minutes from the old harbor of Reykjavík. Once we were in in calmer waters the waiting began. Gathering on the vessel´s top deck we looked up in the dark night sky waiting for a sign of northern lights. But first we only got to see some stars above us and clouds moving over the skyline of Reykjavik. Then some areas above the mountain range Esja appeared in faint green. Although it was a big area, the green remained very pale for about 1.5 hours. When the time was up to leave, the captain decided to give it another half an hour and be patient. And that was all we needed! Just minutes later the same area we had been watching for a long time already, appeared in bright green and yellow and different shapes of the northern lights. A great finish of this tour.
