Report from Eldey: The aurora forecast for this night was high with 5 out of 9 so that many people joined us on our tour tonight. We were eager to see the northern lights, but quite a heavy rain had started exactly when we sailed out. Nevertheless since the forecast was high and the weather had been changing all evening, we definitely wanted to give it a try. A cold wind was also blowing, but the islands around Reykjavik gave us shelter and our captain did a great job in finding us a calm spot to look for the aurora. The rain stopped after half an hour and we could see the first stars gazing through the clouds. It still took about 40 minutes longer till we could see the first light green glimpses, but then the northern lights got stronger so that everybody could see them, we even had a brief episode of bright green and dancing lights. The window in the clouds lasted for about half an hour before it closed again and we started heading back. Even though the northern lights were not as strong as expected tonight, we were happy to see them and can say for sure that we used the window between two rainy periods very well.
