Tour at 21:00

Report from Eldey: With such a great forecast (relatively clear sky + kp5 index), we couldn't wait to get out there this evening ! And the northern lights seemed to be as impatient to show up ! Right after departure, there was an whirling green ribbon behind our boat. Great beginning of the tour, but this first display vanished after few minutes. After that, we had to wait a bit more before getting more action. This waiting time proved to be useful to try different camera parameters and train to capture this phenomenon, though. For a while, there was a thin high layer of clouds, so we could somehow see green colour on the pictures, but no proper northern lights yet. Then, on the right inside of the boat, a bright arch appeared and got brighter. It stayed there for few minutes before undulating, fading away, and coming back again. At some point, the lights became wider, took more space in the sky, and what was a thin ribbon became a veil ! We enjoyed it until it disappeared and then started to head back toward the harbour. But the sky was not done yet with us, and as we crossed the harbour walls we were greeted with more northern lights above the city lights, finishing on an exquisite bonus. After docking, the lights strengthened and lingered for a while above Reykjavik, so hopefully everyone could enjoy the aurora a bit more on their way home !
