As it was snowing yesterday it may be hard for some to believe that the puffins are coming. Well the sun is shining today the snow melting (if note melted) and for the last few days we have seen puffins out on the water. We had been expecting them as the first puffins usually start arriving in late April and we know that more will follow swiftly. The puffins usually settle on the islands around Reykjavík in mid May and that is when we start our puffin watching tours. Until then we'll just have to settle with seeing those cute little birds on the water amongst many other bird species.
What is unusual is that this year we saw the first signs of puffins in late March. This was on our whale watching tour from Grindavík on 20 March 2013. One of our passenger got a picture of a seabird and once it had been zoomed up we couldn't really think what other seabird this could be with it's black-back, white belly and orange feet.
