Report from Eldey: Blue skies and sunshine on the afternoon tour. The weather was even better than in the morning, with the wind in our back as we sailed out on our second mission of the day. We sharpened our eyes from the first moment on as there was big flocks of birds near the islands close to Reykjavik: kittiwakes, black-headed gulls, eider ducks and cormorants in big numbers. That can always be an indicator of fish in the water. No signs of cetaceans though, so we continued sailing doing a big circle like this morning, exploring along Reykjanes peninsula and then heading towards the mountains Akrafall and Esja. We enjoyed beautiful sailing with the wind picking up a little as the tour went on. Lately, we have encountered a lot of life in the waters of Faxafloi lately, so to our big surprise there was nothing to be found this afternoon. It is unfortunate but something we have to accept when dealing with wildlife. For this reason, we gave everyone a complimentary ticket allowing to come again for free on another tour within the next two years.

Report from Eldey: What a beautiful morning in Faxafloi as we started the day sailing out from the Old Harbour. Sea was flat and a light wind was blowing in our backs, making it a very smooth sail. It was mostly cloudy but sun was peeking through more and more and lighting up the snowy mountains surrounding us. We first explored the Eastern part of the bay, checking out areas with flocks of seabirds and especially the spot where we had seen whales yesterday. Since we are dealing with wild animals, they move around alot following the food supply and now were not in the same area anymore. We started heading to the West to cover as large of an area as possible during our search for whales and dolphins. Now the wind was blowing in our faces and we got a good taste of Icelandic winter's air. But still hopeful we kept scanning our surroundings. Despite our best efforts there was, however, no cetaceans in the area today. Wildlife is unpredictable and sometimes we unfortunately end up not finding our beloved marine mammals in the bay. We want to maximize our passengers' chances of seeing whales and dolphins and therefore invited everyone to join us on another whale watching tour for free with us within the next two years thanks to complimentary tickets that were issued to everyone on board.

Bird seen today include: razorbill, greylag goose, black-legged kittiwake, northern fulmar, northern diver; common guillemot, great-black backed gull, cormorant, black-headed gull

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavík today for the tour at 9:00 and 13:00. There is always some movement out on the bay, so if your are prone to sea sickness we have sea sickness tablets available at our ticket office. Make sure to dress warmly and make use of our warm overalls as it is always colder on sea than on land. For more information contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
