Status: RUNNING

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The wind had picked up some but as it was blowing from the NE we could use the mountains Akrafjall and Esja to gain shelter making for a comfortable ride, well at least for the first hour. After that we were out in the open bay and the boat did rock quite alot but the passengers were true sailors and handled it well with a smile on the majorities face. We searched a large area photographing the birds fly by, the colourful clouds, beautiful landscape and the rainbow. Unfortunately the whales were shy and challenging on this tour, so much so none were seen, not even a blow. Complimentary tickets were given and lets hope for more whales tomorrow.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: The wind was coming from the north east, so it was quite cold and the sea became a little wavy once we left the sheltered harbour.  Fortunatelly our warm overalls kept everyone nice and cozy. About an hour after leaving, we saw some white-beaked dolphins (5 individuals), they were playful and jumped quite close to the boat. Just a short moment afterwards, a minke whale appeared, it came close enough for everyone to get a good view. Further out we saw the blow of another minke whale! It seemed we were in the right spot as whales were feeding amongst the birds. A lovely morning out at sea!

Birds seen on today's tour: great cormorants, eider ducks, northern gannets, black-headed gulls, lesser black-backed gulls, common guillemots, long-tailed ducks, glaucous gulls, iceland gulls.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. There will be movement on the boat due to swells out on Faxabay but if you are sensitive to motion sickness we offer preventative tablets in the ticket office, free of charge!
