Report from Eldey: The weather decided to remind us that this is in fact Iceland and that we shouldn't forget that we could also have no sun, since it was quite cloudy on this tour, but to compensate, we had a pleasant warm wind in our faces. After searching for an hour it all came to a stop when we spotted some fins on the water surface. Moment of truth; will the dolphins be in a "good mood" or will they ignore us and disappear. They chose to do the latter. 5-6 white-beaked dolphins played with our boat, passing really close to our bow and going around and under us...it was something to be seen and you could see that on the faces of the delighted folks on board. As sudden as they came, they left the boat and continued with their business, leaving us with a sense of aw and wonder.

The weather was just beautiful, sunny and calm, perfect for whale watching! We sailed for about 45 minutes until we spotted the first animals, a pod of 5 white-beaked dolphins! The were quite energetic and came right up to the boat to check us out! They swam underneath the boat and came up on the other side, where we could see their whole bodies under the surface! We then found a minke whale, and soon after we were surrounded by minke whales! We probably had about 7-9 different individuals all around. We enjoyed the tour to the fullest until we ran out of time. What a great tour with Elding!

Report from Eldey: Clear and bright skies were holding on to the promise of a proper summer here in Iceland! Though we could feel a bit of a swell, it was still quite a comfortable ride. This journey certainly raised up to everybody’s expectations! Soon after we left the harbour we found a pod of 5 or 6 white beaked dolphins. It was possible to observe them as they were foraging and eventually jumping just a few meters away from us! Most people would have though our trip could not get any better than that. Did not take them long to think twice. As we reached an area with a lot of bir activity around us, we spotted a minke whale! But our jaws dropped as all of the sudden we realised we were surrounded by at least 5 of them! As a minke whale was going for a deeper dive another would pop up just right after on another direction, making it quite challenging to keep track of all of them! Our clock system just became pointless as whales could be sighted in all directions… All our passengers got to chance to make memorable videos and photographs. Another great tour with Elding!

Report from Hafsúlan: The sun was shining with strengh while we left the harbour and it stayed with us the whole trip. We had a fresh breeze reminding us that these are sub-artic waters, but the weather looked ideal. After a few minutes enyoing a mild sailing, we had the chance to encounter a small pod of 4 white-beaked dolphins travelling slowly. We were accompanying them until we spotted something suspicius a bit further out. Thousands of sea birds were having a fish feast and, among them, appeared a really big minke whale. The first time, it surfaced really close to the boat and it stayed around us a few minutes. In the meanwhile, more dark shapes started to appear everywhere. A really small juvenile with, probably, its mother delighted us by surfacing together a couple of times in front of us. A total of, at least, 7 minke whales were taking advantage of the big feast, sharing it also with 3 small harbour porpoises that didn’t want to lose it! Three different species showed us today how amazing marine wildlife is and how much nature can surprise us every day.

Report from Eldey: The sunny saga continues. Considerably calmer waters then yesterday meant a really nice boat ride. We didn't sail for a full hour when we spotted a gigantic flock of feeding birds on the horizon 2nm away. Naturally we went in that direction and not long after we were in the middle of a feeding frenzy. There were hungry birds of various species all around us. What we enjoyed a little bit more then the birds were the minke whales. I honesty lost count of them, but we were surrounded. At one point there was 3 of them surfacing at the same time. I would guess that there were around 7-8 minke whales in the area. It wasn't necessary to point the animals out as usual because wherever we looked, someone could see a whale. We were having such a good time that the news about our inevitable return to the harbour didn't sit well with us. What a supreme experience.
