Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: We left Reykjavik Harbour, hopefully we would see the same wildlife we had seen on previous tours today. But this tour turned out to be a tricky one. We searched for 2 hours before we saw blows from 2 minke whales. When we were in the area where the blows were seen, a minke whale came to the surface around 50 meters from the boat, and it was exciting to finally see some wildlife. The minke whales however were not in a mood to interact tonight. We decided to offer all our passengers complimentary tickets so they can join us on another tour! Better luck next time!

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The sea state was the same and with the sun in the face we started our tour in direction where we left the cetaceans on our morning tour. All of a sudden we started to see our first blow of a minke whale which was rather elusive but at the same time another individual surfaced close to us and stayed for some time. After this we started to see splashes a bit further out and upon reaching the area it was clear, that we were dealing with around 8-10 white-beaked dolphins. Curious and playful by nature, they were jumping around and crossing under our boat, some even coming for a boride. What a fantastic show, especially as the northern gannets started to plunge-dive in the same area. On our way back we encountered a 3rd minke whale and, to top it all, a group of 4-5 harbour porpoises!

Tour 09:00

Report from Eldey: It was a beautiful morning, sailing out from Reykjavik to Faxafloí Bay. It was a bit chilly with 7-8 m/s North East wind, but people could stay comfortable with the overalls provided on the ship. On the entire tour we could enjoy sunshine! We sailed for an hour without seeing any cetaceans, but suddenly it really picked up. We started out seeing one blow from a minke whale, so we went to that area to check it out. And then we found ourselves surrounded by 7-10 minke whales. Three of the minke whales came really close, and it was easy for everybody to see a whale, almost irregardless of the direction they were looking at. After the great encounter with the whales, we went to an area with jumping dolphins. We saw 8-10 white beaked dolphins, and they were jumping and feeding. We got lucky and had 5 young dolphins calves bowriding on our boat. Great day on Faxafloi, with sunshine and fun cetaceans!
