Tour at 20:30

Report from Hafsúlan: We were so excited to go out on the first midnight tour of the season. We decided to head straight out to search for the whales and stop by at Akurey on the way back home. We searched in a very large area and after a long time we saw a blow from a minke whale. We only saw this minke whale once and then it was gone. We saw blow from another whale and one dorsal fin but never the whale itself. Despite the lack of the whales we had a beautiful night with the midnight sun and Snæfellsjökull (Snæfellsglacier) just amazing. Very beautiful night but no whales around.

Tour at 17:00

Report from Hafsúlan: It was quite windy on this tour and therefore it was also a little bit colder than on our previous tours today. But most of our passengers took an overall or a blanket and with that it was much more comfortable to stay outside. It was a little bit more difficult to find the whales. We went in the same area where we spotted several minke whales on previous tours but this time unfortunately we were not lucky anymore. So we searched relatively long for some whales and we also went relatively far out. Luckily we heard from another boat that they found some dolphins. So we went in the same direction and finally we spotted 8 to 10 white-beaked dolphins. It was great to watch them and we could follow them quite a while. We saw them very well and some of them where almost jumping.

Tour at 14:00

Report from Elding: A little windy on this tour but it was a warm wind which wasn´t too bad. We started the tour at Akurey and saw, well, not so many puffins but there was still a few around with other seabirds like Eider Ducks, Seagulls and their chicks, Arctic Terns and others. We then headed out into the bay and on the way got to see a Harbour Seal just past Grotta (the light house at the end of Seltjarnarnes Peninsula). Then after a while of searching we just got word from another whale watching vessel about a Minke Whale they had. Once we arrived the Minke Whale seemed quite elusive or busy but after a while it and others started to surface more frequently and a couple came meters from the boat. Incredible. One, i felt, interacted with us a little. It move slowly close and past the boat and then turned and surfaced just behind us. It submerged itself once by not doing a rolling motion forward but just dipped down exactly in the same spot, which i have only seen once by a Minke Whale before. Very interesting to watch. All it all we must of seen 4-5 Minke Whales, two small pods of about 2-3 Harbour Porpoises and many seabirds including a couple of flocks of feeding Arctic terns and Puffins. Great Tour.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather was still very nice and warm as we started our midday tour. On this tour we saw 3 to 5 minke whales. It was nice to have them sometimes very close to the boat - and sometimes a little bit farer. The sea was very calm and therefore it was very easy to spot them. We had a very good view on this tour and therefore we could not only enjoy the minke whales but also the beautiful landscape around us.

Tour at 10:00

Report from Elding: It was a wonderful morning, the sun was shining and it was really warm today. We went out and the first species that we spotted were two harbour porpoises next to the boat. We continued our journey and could also see a minke whale. While we were waiting to see this minke whale again we recognised that there is another species around. We found two humpback whales! It was amazing - it seemed it was a mother with its calve. Both surfaced always at the same time and the blows were very clear to see. Great tour! We followed the two humpback whales for a while and could see them perfectly and very close to the boat. It was great to see the big one and the small one very close to her. Unfortunately we had to go back to the harbour but on the way back we saw two more minke whales. It was great to see on this tour three different species.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Hafsúlan: The weather was still being just perfect for a whale watching tour this nice Friday morning. We headed straight out to the bay to search for the whales. It took us a long time to search and we did not see any signs of the whales. We got some news that another boat had few minke whales close to them so we headed to that area. We found one minke whale and this one was being very elusive. We spotted another minke whale and we could see this one surfacing very close to the boat. But then a very nice surprise happened to us! When we were waiting for the minke whale a humpback whale just surfaced right in front of us! WOW and not just one but two! One of them was smaller than the other one so it could be that we had a mother and her calf. We stayed with them for a while but like all good things do this one had to come to and end. We ended the tour visiting Akurey the puffin Island were we had so many puffins. What a great tour!

Seabirds seen on todays tours include; Kittiwakes, Fulmars, Gannets, Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Arctic Skuas, Arctic Terns, Greylag Geese Eider Ducks
