Report from Elding: With stunning sea and weather conditions we sailed out enjoying what remained of the Icelandic summer. After about an hour we encountered a minke whale very close to our boat surfacing twice, but it soon disappeared. We ventured out further in hopes of finding the humpback encountered earlier, but our hopes were not met. However due to the great conditions we all enjoyed the trip anyway and few people accepted the complimentary tickets offered.

Report from Eldey:The clouds were breaking up this afternoon and enough overhead to give us good spotting conditions. We were having to head further out into the bay today to see the whales, after an hours sailing we started to see of first signs, black backs and triangular dorsal fins. Minke whales! There were two that we saw one after the other, but they were difficult to show the passengers with their unpredictable surface behaviours. It was hard to follow the minkes this afternoon but luckily there were at least 4-6 in the area. One of them surfaced twice very close to the boat, we even saw the white on the pectoral fins it was so close. Then we got word of a humpback whale, from another whale watching vessel. This whale took us further out into the bay and so we were late back, we didn't mind though. He/she was great, fluked twice and was blowing bubble, we guess to help it feed but it showed us where it was and so it was easy to follow and stay with for a while.

Report from Eldey: A beautiful sunny morning was waiting for us in the bay. Just a tiny little bit of wind was blowing from the north, and we also got some swell from the outside of the bay. It was not after a full hour that we encounter our first minke whale wandering around the bay! When we approached the animal we actually found two more in the surrounding areas, and we spent almost the rest of the tour trying to enjoy them. The animals were behaving rather elusive, surfacing only once and then going for long dives but still we will able to get a close look to a few of them. Nice beginning of the morning!

Birds seen on today's tours: Eider Duck, European Shag, Cormorant, Northern Fulmar, Black-legged Kittiwake, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Black-headed Gull, Razorbill, Common Guillemot and Northern Gannet.

We are sailing out from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik today. There is little wind but there could be some movement on the boat out on Faxabay. If you are sensitive to motion sickness we offer preventative tablets in the ticket office, free of charge!
