Status 9:00 and 13:00 Tour: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The weather this afternoon was beautiful. Blue skies and the warmth of the sun being felt when sheltered from the wind. However, once on the water the wind was rather strong and bitterly cold. The ocean was a little bumpy but as we sailed with the small waves this was not an issue. It took an hour until we had our first sighting which turned out to be quite exciting. Many birds were seen feeding and from the waters surface two large blows erupted. The blows were those of the humpback whale. After these two were sighted, many more blows appeared around the boat with as many as 6-8 humpbacks feeding within a kilometre of one another. Two whales breached, displaying their size and strength. We watched the whales for some time before continuing withour trip where we docked at Grindavik. Great tour and many delighted passengers.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: After a sunny bus ride toward Sandgerdi, we set sail in a freezing and windy weather, but in a splendid landscape. While the ride was rocky, it definitely paid off to come here to meet the capelin stock! shortly after departure, we encountered a pair of humpback whales! The two individuals were traveling close to each other, and graced us with beautiful and close sightings of their tail stocks elevated in the air. But there's more: one of the whales turned out  to be one of our old friend, a humpback we met for the first time back in 2014 and that we named Vignir! It's always nice to recognize individuals! We followed the animals until it was time to head back, and everybody got back to land with beautiful memories.

Bird species seen on today's tour include: northern gannet, lesser black-backed gull, icelandic gull, northern fulmar, eider duck & razorbill

We will be sailing out from SANDGERDI today at 9:00 and 13:00 since we know of the Capellin coming in (which of course often brings the whales in as well, we even heard about Orca and Humpback sightings there yesterday). A bus will be ready and waiting for passengers here in the Old Harbour and drive off to Sandgerdi at the scheduled departure time. But this will resault to a 5 hour tour that will affect combo tours. After the tour we will return to Reykjavík by bus again. For more information please contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
