Status: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: The strong winds last few days had built up high swells in the bay, but by sailing from Hafnafjörður we minimized all movement of the boat. We began the tour by sailing into the strong wind, and got hit by occasional hail storms on the way. Far out on the bay we noticed increased bird activity but they were scattered and not feeding. Two researchers from Matís came with us and took samples of the bacteria and algea in the water in the bay. This meant that we stopped on our way back to Reykjavík for a few minutes for them to collect water samples. Although we searched for wildlife the whole time we had little success and had to return back to Reykjavík before any cetaceans were spotted, that why we handed everyone return tickets. Hopefully our passengers will get luckier on their next trip with us in Faxaflói bay!

Bird species seen on today's tour include: northern gannet, common guillemot, cormorants, glaucous gull, iceland gull, eidar ducks, northern fulmar, and red-throated dive.

We will be sailing out from HAFNARFJÖRDUR today at 13:00 due to unfavourable conditions out of Reykjavík. A bus will be ready and waiting for passengers here in the Old Harbour and drive off to Hafnarfjördur at the scheduled departure time. After the tour we will return to Reykjavík by bus again, or the boat will sail to Reykjavík. For more information please contact us by email elding@elding.is or by phone +354 519 5000.
