Tour at 20:30

Report from Elding. Like yesterday, we began the tour at puffin island to take nice photos of this colourfull bird. We then sailed straight into the sunset focusing our eagle eyes on the water surface. We only started explaining the clock system that a Minke Whale surfaced right in front of the boat, we couldn't make a better explanation of what was 12 o'clock. We followed this whale for a while, it was probably searching for food or even feeding close to the bottom because it was changing direction and going for long dive. We decided to find another animal so we headed further offshore where we found a second Minke. The rest of the tour was a bit more quite and just before heading back we saw 2 groups of Harbour Porpoises. We enjoyed the live music and the happiness of the passengers on the way back with a beautiful sunset on our back!

Tour at 1700

Report from Elding : The weather has been just wonderful throughout the day! Again a very nice sailing out in Faxafloi bay! The first and wonderful encounter we got was with a pod of harbour porpoises coming in the front right of the boat. We stayed with it a little cause they were feeling like showing us a bit more than usual. One swam so fast from the front left side to the boat down to the right side and back of the boat, that everybody was amazed to see its whole brown body under the surface very close! Then we had the whole group between 11 to 1 o'clock surfacing many time, when suddenly the captain sees a blow not that far at 1. It was a minke whale, and what a minke whale !! We saw only one on this tour but a great one with which we stayed around 35 minutes watching it surfacing and surfacing between 3 meters to 20 meters from the boat and saw even the white stripe on its left flipper as well as the two blow holes at the top of the head and the extremity of the mouth, and nice blows! Wow great tour with a very friendly whale!

Tour at 14:00

Report from Elding: We sailed 40 min to our main whale watching area looking for the birds in order to find a productive area. We found plunging gannets and feeding arctic terns, and then our first whale, but then we found later our second Minke Whale and a very great one with which we stay for quite long. it was feeding actively, surfacing a lot and showing us its head and blow holes. But the best thing was that the whale was lunging and lunge feeding so many times that we couldn't count it, and showing a lot of its body. It was a very great Minkie that our researchers who were on boat recognized as "resight guy", since this minkie has been spotted several times already this year and the past few years. It has since this year a scratch on the right side of the dorsal fin. The whale was few times surrounded by a really nice pod of Harbour Porpoises surfacing so close to the boat, giving us a very nice show and sight of their brown bodies under the surface! Really great tour!!! Then we finished this tour with Akurey puffin island.

Tour at 1300

Report from Elding : We went to Akurey island to see our cute atlantic puffins, and they were there as usual on the surface or flying or chilling on the grass. after 30 minutes sailing out we spotted 2 shy fast swimming Harbour Porpoises and then our first blow from a Minke Whale far away in front of the boat, it was our first minke whale but it was very elusive and was diving for a long time. A second one showed us its blow just later on and we managed to see it a little bit closer but again this minke was a bit difficult not surfacing again after a long time. We kept looking and found a nice minke whale at the end of the trip that we saw very close to the boat surfacing three times and then disappearing in the blue of the ocean, but people saw it very well and got a nice look at the colour and pattern of its body. the weather was so beautiful and perfect!

Tour at 10:00

Report from Elding : We went first to Akurey island to see the puffins, and there were so many of them. Then we went further out in Faxafloi bay and spotted our first minke whales we had in total 6-8 of them and a small one which turned out to be juvenile. One whale has been really great coming close to the boat, showing a lot of its body, while the others were a bit more elusive and diving for long time. And coming out of nowhere : two very cute and entertaining harbour porpoises coming from the back right side of the boat towards the front playing with the waves, that everybody could see them very well under the surface and breathing, they went in front of the boat made a turn back to the right side, synchronising their moves and breathing behaviour. Really amazing to see them so easily.

Tour at 900

Report from Elding : Good weather and flat sea in Faxafloi bay! A lot of puffins on Akurey island. We saw throughout this tour a lot of different pods of harbour porpoises, and 6-8 minke whales. The longer we stayed in the bay the closer we got to the whales and we had few plunging gannets. We saw several times the minkies sufacing close to the boat. The harbour porpoises seemed to follow us or the whales, they were just great and all the passengers got a nice look at these small cetaceans! Nice tour!
