Status tour 1pm: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR

Tour at 13:00

Report from Elding: Due tue the strong winds from the north resulting in a big swell we decided to depart from another harbor today. We left for our tour from Grindavik which is a small harbor located in the south of the Reykjanes peninsula. Although the tour itself with the driving to the harbor and back took a little more than the usual 3h, it was definitely worth it. Not long after we left the harbor, we spotted two strong blows far in the distance. When we approached the area, we found two humpback whales swimming towards the west. First they were seen a little bit apart but at some point they joined and stopped for feeding. Thus, we could get closer and watched them lungefeeding and surfacing slowly in less than 50m distance to our vessel. Some passengers even managed to take pictures of their beautiful flukes (One individual turned out to be "Trispot" which was sighted once before in Faxafloi almost 4 years ago.). Worth every second we spent out in the cold today!

Status Tour 9am: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR

Tour at 09:00

Report from Elding: We were so excited to be trying out a new area, with the diffocult tours of elusive whales and dolphins and challenging weather we were happy to try something different. We sailed out from Grindavik and turned left to travel East along the southern side of the Reykjanes Penisula. It was freezing, aleast - 10 -15 degrees celcius with the wind chill. Brrrrrrrr! it was nice to have the warm saloon, overalls and hot beverages to help keep up warm. Unfortunately there were no whales or dolphins to the east so we offered our passengers complimentary tickets. We will try our luck in the west for our next tour and hopefully will get lucky there.

Bird species seen on todays tours include: Iceland gulls, black-backed gulls, glaucous gulls, eider ducks, little auk, great cormorants.

Status tour 1pm: RUNNING FROM ANOTHER HARBOUR

We will be sailing out from GRINDAVÍK again today at 1 o'clock, due to unfavourable conditions out of Reykjavík. A bus will be ready and waiting for passengers here in the Old Harbour and drive off to Grindavík at the scheduled departure time.

This will result in a longer tour, or around 5 hrs in total and could impact COMBO tours. Guests that are unable to join the tour because of it's length should contact their travel planner immediately to arrange for a different activity or check for other options provided by them.

We are expecting the sea conditions to be quite rough today, so we do provide seasickness tablets at our ticket office, free of charge!
