Tour at 19:00

Report from Elding: This midnight tour was memorable. Good start with not many people on board but at the same time very committed!they actually spotted some animals on the tour. After 40 minutes of sailing we saw the first minke whale out of 4!a bit elusive at first but they became more friendly as the time passed by. There were two juveniles swimming alongside! really beautiful to watch! there was a curious one come really close to boat!at least 3 times! unbelievable. Really odd behaviour in this bay. Remember that they are still hunted so they are cautious for sure. However, this one was a really brave one. On the way back Gardar, one of my favorite troubadours on the elding team serenaded us with lovely covers everyone knew on board. What a sunset too! I´d take this tour again if I was given the chance. I am going to miss these midnight tours.

Tour at 17:00

Report from Eldey: A beautiful but challenging tour. The weather was great, calm seas and an overcast sky but perfect whale spotting conditions. The tour was challenging because even though we saw at least 10 minke whales throughout the tour, we could not spend long with any of them. For most of them it was a surface if not two and that was it. Really needed a lot of patience for these minkes on this tour. It was only on the way back to the harbour when time was running out that we saw these minke whales better, it was like they were laughing at us. These sneaky minke whales.

Tour at 14:00

Report from Elding: The wind had freshened up a little bit when we went out this afternoon, but the sun continued to follow us so that most of our passengers took the chance to enjoy the nice weather on the outside decks. It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to find our first cetaceans. A small pod of 3-4 white-beaked dolphins dived twice underneath the boat so that everybody could get nice glimpses of them. Then the dolphins decided to be a bit more elusive and we did not see them anymore. Nevertheless when we continued our journey we soon spotted a minke whale and could observe it coming up a couple of times before we decided to sail to an area where other boats had seen a lot of bird activity. On our way there we were accompanied by 3-5 harbour porpoises and entertained by diving northern gannets. When we reached the area of feeding sea birds we almost immediately spotted two more minke whales. One in the distance and one only 50 meters away from us. What a great way to see a minke that close and being entertained by 5-7 harbour porpoises very close by to the boat. The passengers in the bow could even see them looking at us. When we had to say good bye to the cetaceans to return to the old harbour of Reykjavik, everybody had gotten great views of these small, adorable cetaceans. A very nice afternoon in Faxa bay.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: At the beginning the tour didn‘t seem to become a great one, but, oh boy, what a surprise we got! After sailing for more than 40 minutes, without signs of cetaceans and just few birds around, we encountered a minke whale. It surfaced just 20 meters from our boat, 4 times in a row, swimming parallel with us, so all the passengers had a great look at it. Then we started heading to the area where we heard the other whale watching boat has seen other cetaceans. On a way a pod of 3 harbour porpoises passed us by. They were really lovely, about 40 meters from our boat, surfacing with  large part of their bodies above sea surface and one was even surfing the wave! Soon we came close enough to the area where other whale watching boat was to see a surprise: a breaching minke whale! Whale was breaching continuously more than 10 times in a row and repeated this few times! Absolutely amazing!!! What a rare and precious encounter we had!

Tour at 10:00

Report from Elding: Pretty good morning tour. We found 3 minke whales throughout the tour but it was not easy. Very elusive this time but we could catch a glimpse of them. Nonetheless, one of them breached really close to the boat! Only some passengers saw it because they were looking into the right direction. Anyways, the pod of 20 white-beaked dolphins made up for it in the end. They were fishing like crazy and also leaping out of the water. Besides, some proper calves were with their mamas. Very cute thing to witness!looking forward to guiding next tours!

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: Sea conditions and weather were good this morning as we left the harbour and it didn't take very long for one of our passenger to spot a pod of four harbour porpoises. We kept going as the elusive creatures were heading out of our way. Some of us occasionally caught a glimpse of the smallest cetacean of Iceland as we crossed the path of more small pods until we found three white-beaked dolphins. These animals weren't less elusive than our porpoises and after trying for a few minutes to follow them we kept going further out in the bay. After a while we managed to find a large minke whale which we were able to follow for a while and came quite close to our boat. After such a nice encounter we headed back to Reykjavik and saw again a few porpoises on the way back.
