Tour 13:00

In the best whale watching weather you can ask for we headed out into Faxaflói Bay full of hope of finding the Humpback Whales again but the luck was not with us like this morning’s tour. Instead we spotted a small pod of Harbour Porpoises and a lot of Minke Whales. In the beginning the Minkes were always surfacing more than 100meters away from us but all around. Then at the end of the tour a couple of Minkes surfaced a few times only about 50 meters from our vessel giving us a great look. There were many seabirds out offshore, Gannets, Arctic Terns, Arctic and Pomarine Skuas, Gulls, Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Razorbills, Guillemots and many Puffins. We ended the tour by visiting the Puffins on Akurey and many of them were home. Shame we didn´t see the Humpbacks again but still a very nice tour ;)

Tour at 09:00

The weather was beautiful, flat calm sea and sunny. We started the tour by visiting Akurey and saw loads of Puffins. We then headed out into Faxaflói for about 30 minutes before coming across a small pod of Harbour Porpoises. We then headed further offshore and came to an area where there were so many Minke Whales. One surfaced only 20-30 meters from the boat and you could see it swimming just beneath the water’s surface.  We had such a good start with the Minkes that we headed further out looking for other species but we only came across another Minke. Again it surfaced less than 100 meters from the boat giving the passengers a fantastic look. The time was running out so we had to head back to the harbour but then............we got word from another boat that they found a couple of .....yes you guessed it........HUMPBACK WHALES!! After two months of waiting their return they finally arrived. They surfaced together a couple of times and travelled in front of  our boat. One of them was huge, maybe 15-18 meters. What an amazing tour. Hope you stay for a while Humpies :)
