Status: RUNNING

We are sailing from the Old Harbour in Reykjavik at 9am and 1pm today. According to the forecast the wind is calm but there could be some movement on the boat. If you are sensitive to motion sickness we offer preventative tablets in the ticket office, free of charge! On board there are heated indoor areas but we also have overalls to keep you warm out on deck.

Tour at 13:00

Report from Eldey: We left the harbour in good spirits. The weather was very nice, albeit a little cold, and the surface of the ocean was like a mirror. We headed straight to the area where we saw the dolphins and the minke whale on the last tour and, sure enough, dolphins galore! We saw about 25-30 of these beautiful white-beaked dolphins in six pods on the tour and they were all around us. They came very close to check us out, leaping out of the water and when we decided to leave them to it and head further out they even followed us. We were still being followed when we spotted a huge blow and a black back about 2 km away at our 12 o'clock and at the same time another whale watching boat let us now they had found a minke whale at our 1 o'clock. Sadly we didn't see the animal at 12 resurface but when we were looking for the minke whale harbour porpoises started cropping up everywhere, we saw about 15 of them on the tour! The minke whale turned out to be quite unpredictable and elusive but hopefully a few passengers were able to at least catch a glimpse of it. Soon it was time to head back to the harbour and on our way back we encountered the dolphins again and had a very nice sailing back in beautiful weather.

Tour at 09:00

Report from Eldey: We could feel weather was getting better this morning. Wind was not very strong so we had a relatively calm sea, it was slightly raining time to time but nothing that would remain too long, and we took advantage of the overalls on board to counter the cold embracing the bay. The sailing was therefore enjoyable, and we could cover a wide area in our searching without too much troubles. We reached an area that looked promising as a lot of birds were gathering there, and stopped because we sighted one minke whale. It surfaced three times before disappearing in the depths for a deep dive. While we were waiting for this whale to surface, we also came across a pod of 3-4 white-beaked dolphins ! They were clearly busy, regularly disappearing for few minutes then popping up briefly and quickly. Our instruments on board could confirm that there was fish close to the sea bottom, so it's highly probable that these cetaceans were in a feeding frenzy, not minding us at all. We did our best to follow them, it was some time a struggle, but we hope everybody could see them ! When time was due, we went home in a landscape slowly getting brighter and warmer.
